- I had a mother who was bipolar--if that was indeed Mary's illness. They can be wonderful one day and terribly abusive and off the wall the next. They also tend toward alcohol and drug abuse which compounds the problem.

- Sheila--this article seems to downplay the importance of what is possibly going on. Showers of dense floaters, fireworks,lights can possibly be precursors of serious tears.

- Of course they have emppathy for their owners, even strangers. They also empathize with other dogs, their mates. Perfect example is recent newsstory of dog that stayed by his pal's side for hours after he/she died.
